My 2 cents review: Drag me to hell.

Yeah I know Im really late on getting this one but I just havent had the desire to post much on here considering the very low view rate my blog gets, it doesnt make me feel like posting much when not many check it out and I get 0% comments or anything. Hell Ive got like 4 other movies Ive seen I hadnt done since my last which was Star Trek I think.

Anyway, enough of that shit. This is Sam Raimi's supposed return to horror. Sam is best known for his Evil Dead trilogy and Spiderman trilogy but I also liked the first Darkman movie as well. I welcomed this from him since personally I miss his take on other things besides fucking Spiderman.

Directing: Well as usual this does carry a very Sam'ish style to it, especially during action sequences because he is a very kinetic director and it applies here to. When something is going on there is alot of things in motion both physically and audio wise to, he does have a unique style to his action that I cant quite nail down. All in all it was top notch for this movie, he always showed us just the right amount and such in the hankerchief scene he even got me as I was busy watching one thing while the other was sitting right infront of me revealing itself to me at the perfect time and creeping me out a little which is no small feat. His movies from a camera standpoint are usually good and this is no exception, he balanced both being very sly at showing us things building tension and other times in almost comedic performances he is just very stark and in your face about what he shows.

Acting: Well ace acting and horror movies on the whole are not common roomates to eachother, seldomly even living in the same building really. Personally I thought the woman who played the gypsy was great in her part, she did a very good job in it and Id swear she was the pot boiling witch from Army of Darkness but I havent confirmed it. The main character did a decent job to, I liked her because she could actually some and not some fucking deadpan actor relying strictly on her looks and popullarity like fucking megan fox. Our main girl Alison Lohman in this film was pretty but she wasnt famous or what hollywood says is beautiful, she was more like a real girl instead of a fake girl and that helped you relate to her much more. Her boyfriend Justin Long acts exactly the same as he does in everyother film, which means barely. I had to keep from laughing watching him try to act like he was from a blueblood family and a professor, it was ridiculous to the point of distracting sometimes., his mom in the movie on the other hand did a great job because I hated that fucking dity cunts attitude and you were supposed to. In the end its a horror movie so no acting awards handed out here, it was good enough though and certainly not your average low grade acting.

Storyline: The story was pretty if nothing else cliched for a horror movie. Witch/gypsy, curse, girl tries to get uncursed, blah blah. Ive seen it before but its actually well done in this movie because the story evolves and grows as the movie goes, the entire story isnt told in the first 15 minutes like most and thats it, atleast in here you learn and see new things as it goes along. It also has this very charming fairy tale type of motiff to it, like your reading some nursery rhyme where things are much darker than they appear to be at first glance.

Effects: Well much like I was afraid of with Sam getting used to so many god damn CG shots and effects in the Spiderman trilogy movies he overdid the CG stuff here a little to much. You cant fool me with CG effects as they dont look natural and detract from movies especially horror as it doesnt allow you to suspend your disbelief to forget your watching a movie, or its hard to really feel for a character as CG blood squirts unnaturally out of them cause you can obviously see its fake. With that said for the most part the effects in here were fairly well done and nothing really hurt the movie to bad, but I would have preferred practical effects for more of the movie. The audio was really awesome in this to, as I went to a theater with a great sound system it really added to the movie. When he wanted he could make the audio really give what was happening visually have a bigger impact on you with a sound effect or the nicely done music.

Overall: Well, overall this the best horror film I have seen this year so far. Dont let the pg-13 rating fool you, despite alot of gore, cursing and nudity to make it rated R this is a very well done horror movie. I was a little unsure but I was pleasently surprised to say the least. I left the theater happy and saying to myself "That was pretty damn good". I was very pleased at Sam's ending also, it put a smile on my face to see someone show some balls and put a final stamp on a ending instead of the usual empty, leaving room for a sequel pussy shit. I just might buy this on dvd when it comes out I enjoyed it enough.

I give it 8 out 10 stars.
